This could be caused by a number of things. Check the following:
* CD volume settings in the mixer
* Speakers are connected and functioning correctly
* In Windows Control Panel, check the Drivers for a driver called
[MCI]CD Audio. This driver must be installed and the CD must be
detected when the driver name is double-clicked on. (Check with the
CD-ROM drive documentation about loading these files.)
If the drive is detected but no sound is heard, try plugging a pair of
headphones or speakers directly into the jack on the front of the
CD-ROM drive. If sound is heard through the CD this way, check that
the audio cable connecting the CD to the sound card is not loose and is
connected correctly.
Contact the soundcard/hardware manufacturer for further information.
