Connecting without a LAN
Q: I have a LAN and a Linux-Server-powered LAN. But would it be possible to
listen to MP3-Files with the AudioTron by using a stand-alone NAS-device
after shutting down the entire network ? What I am thinking of is: is it
possible to connect the Audiotron to a NAS-device by a crossover network
cable with nothing else connected to any other network (apart from the
installation/configuration) ... or in other words: how can I turn the
AudioTron in a standalone hard-disk MP3 player without a LAN.

A: That should work fine as long as a device can be directly connected to
the NAS with a crossover cable. You would have to use static IP for both
if there is no DHCP device. So you would need to connect the Atron to
the LAN first to set it to the correct static IP address.

NOTE: A regular cat5 patch cable is NOT a Crossover cable. In a Crossover
cable, one wire is crossed so a DIRECT connection can be made between
two PCs without a Router or Hub.
