UPDATE:
The AudioTron has been discontinued and it is no longer serviceable.
********************
Often times we receive units for repair that our Lab Technicians report
are fully functional. Before you decide that you have a defective unit,
to save yourself wasted time, trouble and money, here is a check list of
issues just in case you haven't already eliminated:
***
* RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!
RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!
RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!RESTORE DEFAULTS!!!!!!!
We cannot emphasize this enough!
A good number of 'defective' units we have received during the last
4 years were 'fixed' simply by hitting the Restore Defaults button.
Please save yourself the trouble, time, unnecessary expenses, etc.
* If no power, try a different power cable and a different AC outlet.
Make sure you paid the Electric Bill. Nah! This is a joke...
* If the unit does NOT Wake-up, please see the article:
"Wake-up difficulty: Stuck at "Waking-Up" stage"
* You could have a bad or just slightly marred CAT5 cable (assuming you are
using wired Ethernet). If possible move the AT real close to your Router
or PC and test it using a different cabling arrangement? A buggy cable
may explain most of what you are experiencing.
* Make sure that you are using a Router. Not a Switch or Hub as they
are 'passive' devices and they do NOT give out DHCP or IP Address.
* Make sure that it is not overheating if it sits on top of an amp or any
other 'heat generating' appliance or in a poorly ventilated rack case.
* If it is a connectivity problem, please try to run the Setup Utility.
You will be surprised how many times it has solved 'impossible' problems.
* If it is inability to access your files in XP, make sure that you have
'Simple File Sharing' DISABLED. This has given grief to numerous users.
Especially when migrating from Win 2K to Win XP, suddenly all Atron units
- previously fully functional - 'stopped' working. Also with Win XP SP2,
where additional Security was introduced to the OS with a Firewall etc.
See the article: "Win XP SP2"
* Using Windows Explorer move your files to a different place and back to
the Shared folder. Please note that this is a Windows security policy
and not an AudioTron problem as some might think.
* If the issue is "No Analog Audio" remember the AudioTron Specs:
***REAR PANEL LINE OUTPOUTS ARE MUTED WHEN HEADPHONES ARE INSERTED***
If you get no Analog Audio Out, make sure nothing is connected to the
front Headphones jack. This does not apply to the Digital S/PDIF Out.
* Please make sure that there isn't anything about your network
configuration that's out of the norm.
* Instead of a regular CAT5 cable, try using a Crossover cable connected
direct to the PC, using Static IP Address, thus bypassing your Router;
Sometimes Routers need to be reset or require Firmware Updates.
This will also help you determine whether the problem lays within your
Network or with the unit. Crossover cables are wired opposite (mirror
image) to the regular CAT5 cables.
Step By Step Details on Crossover with Static:
- Connect the Atron directly to the PC using a crossover cable and
static IP
- Set the network card in the PC to IP 192.168.0.1 and
- Subnet 255.255.255.0
- Goto the OPTIONS button on the Atron, scroll to Enable DHCP and press
the button
- Select Disable and restart the PC
- The Atron will default to the static IP address 192.168.0.10 and
Subnet 255.255.255.0.
Can you ping the Atron now?
NOTE: A regular cat5 patch cable is NOT a Crossover cable. In a Crossover
cable, one wire is crossed so a DIRECT connection can be made between
two PCs without a Router or Hub.
