In some very new PC systems, one or both COM ports will be disabled in the
motherboard's BIOS Setup Utility. In these cases, it may be necessary to
enable a COM port in the motherboard's BIOS Setup Utility to make it available
for use with the AudioStation Remote.
Not all PC BIOS Setup Utility programs use the same keyboard commands. The
following may be used as a guide that will be applicable to most PC BIOS Setup
programs.
To enable the Serial ports in the BIOS:
1. If the computer is on, shut down Windows and power off the system.
2. Wait 15 seconds or so and turn the computer back on. Enter the BIOS Setup
Utility (sometimes called the CMOS Configuration Utility) using the
appropriate keystroke during the boot sequence. In most systems this will
be the Delete key, but this will vary depending on the manufacturer of your
system. For more information, please refer to the system documentation or
contact the manufacturer of your PC system.
3. Open the Integrated Peripherals screen. Using the arrow keys on your PC's
keyboard, highlight Onboard Serial Port 1 or Onboard Serial Port 2
(depending on which of these you intend to use with the Remote). Using the
Page Up and Page Down keys, set the status of the Onboard Serial Port(s)
to Auto.
4. Save your changes and exit the BIOS Setup Utility. Then allow the computer
to boot to Windows. If you are instructed to place the Windows Installation
CD in the CD-ROM drive, do so.
5. Once you have booted to the Windows Desktop, open the Test Remote utility
by right-clicking on the AudioStation Launch Pad icon in the System Tray
and selecting Test Remote.
6. Follow the onscreen instructions for configuring the AudioStation Remote
Base Station for use with your newly activated Serial port (COM port).
