IMPORTANT!
First make sure you have the MIDI Out plug going into the MIDI In port and
vice versa. Please NOTE: the plugs do NOT go In to In & Out to Out.
They go opposite. This is a common mistake, as most users match the MIDI In
with MIDI In and MIDI Out with MIDI Out.
WINDOWS VOLUME CONTROL (MIXER):
1. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Multimedia (or Entertainment in Windows98)
/Volume Control.
2. Be sure all of vertical faders are turned all the way up and make sure
nothing is muted. When you are done close Windows Volume Control.
3. Start the program and proceed into Keyboard Lessons. Choose your name
under Student Registration.
MIDI CONFIGURATION:
1. The main Keyboard Lessons screen shows a piano with words written on the
keys. Click on the key labeled "SETUP"
2. The program should automatically configure itself to the appropriate MIDI
In port. If you find you are having problems with MIDI In, you may try
switching to another MIDI In port (if available)
3. The program will also automatically configure its MIDI Output to use MIDI
Mapper. If you are having problems with MIDI Output, try changing this
setting.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
1. After configuring the MIDI ports, click on "OK" and then click on SONGBOOK
in the upper right.
2. The next screen will be silent and you will see a list of songs. If you
play on your external keyboard, you should be able to hear it coming
through your computer speakers. If you do hear it, you are properly
configured and you can proceed into the lessons.
3. If you do not, double-click on one of the songs listed.
4. In the upper right of the next screen, you will see two levers marked
"See it" and "Do it". Click on the lever marked "See it". You will see
a finger moving along in the song and you should hear it playing through
the computer speakers. If you hear it, proceed to the next step. If you
do not, click on the book in the bottom right and then again on the next
screen. Go back up to the "MIDI Configuration" section.
5. If you hear the song playing, click on the book in the bottom right.
Try playing on your external keyboard again.
6. If you still do not hear it, be sure the MIDI plugs on your keyboard are
secure. Make sure you have the MIDI Out plug going into the MIDI In port
and vice versa. Please note: the plugs do NOT go In to In & Out to Out.
They go opposite.
7. If you now hear your keyboard coming through your computer speakers,
you are properly configured and you can proceed into the lessons.
8. If you do not, you may be having driver problems with your sound card.
Contact your sound card documentation or manufacturer.
You may also Download a Video that explains in detail how to connect your MIDI
keyboard to your computer. The filename is: midihook.mpg and is located on the
FTP (Files Area) of our Web site.
