MIDI - When I play my external keyboard, the program doesn't see the MIDI input
1) Check that your MIDI keyboard is connected properly to the computer.
Note that the MIDI IN plug of the cable must connect to the MIDI OUT jack
on the keyboard, and the MIDI OUT plug must connect to the MIDI IN jack.

2) Be sure that the correct MIDI IN device is selected in the program setup.
Check that the correct MIDI port is selected. (For example, to record on
MIDI port 1, check that Port 1 in the setup has the correct device listed.
Note that only the available MIDI ports are listed.)

3) Check that the sound card is set up to receive MIDI In. (This is indicated
when the SoundCheck diagnostics fail to register the input.)
This is a very common situation. Most sound card manufacturers and
computer manufacturers disable the external MIDI input to conserve
resources. Some older ISA sound cards need an additional interrupt
request line (IRQ) to enable the External MIDI In.

The steps below will show where to look and what specifically to
address should you need to contact the computer/soundcard manufacturer.

   Windows 95/98
   -------------
For PCI sound cards, the driver in question will be listed as "MIDI
Synthesizer" or "Wavetable Synthesizer". For older ISA sound cards, the
necessary driver will often be the "MPU-401" driver. This is a
generic Microsoft driver that came standard with many older sound cards.

   a) Select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
   b) Double-click on the System icon.
   c) Click on the Device Manager tab.
   d) Double-click on the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers heading
   e) If you do not see a listing for an MPU-401 or MIDI Synthesizer
(Wavetable) device, you may need to install one.
   f) Double-click on the MPU-401/Wavetable device.
   g) Click on the Resources tab.
   h) Confirm that the driver is active, and that a port address is listed
(usually I/O address 330). Some older ISA sound cards may also require
an IRQ for the MIDI Synth or MPU-401 (usually IRQ 9).

   Win 3.X
   -------
   a) Open the Main window.
   b) Double-click on the Control Panel icon.
   c) Double-click on the Drivers icon.
   d) Scroll down to MPU-401, highlight it, and click [Setup].
The assigned resource settings will be displayed.

   Win NT
   ------
   a) Select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
   b) Double-click on the Multimedia icon.
   c) Click on the Devices tab.
   d) Double-click the MIDI heading. A list of MIDI devices will be
       displayed.
   e) Double-click on a device to view its properties and settings.
