MIDI - Instruments assigned to play a MIDI file 
Q. I downloaded a MIDI file from the internet and I want to change the
   instruments it plays.  I can change the patch while the song is playing, 
   but then when it starts over it goes back to the old instrument.

A. The MIDI file you have downloaded has embedded patch change commands.
   You may be able to delete these commands in the Event Editor window 
   of MIDI Orchestrator Plus.
