Guitar Tablature - quick start
Here's how to write Guitar Tablature:

1) Click on File -> New

2) For the score Setting, choose 'Default'.

3) By default, only one staff will appear in the Score Editor. To add a second
staff to hold the tablature, choose Track -> New from the menu bar at the
top of the screen. You will see a second staff appear.

4) Now we will change the second staff to guitar tab. Click on the Pencil Tool
and then click twice on the Clefs button in the upper right of the Score
Editor Window. Select the last option for guitar tablature.

5) Click on the very beginning of the second track and track 2 will now be
set to display in guitar tablature.

6) To change the MIDI sound for the tracks to a guitar patch

   - Select Window –> Track Sheet from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

   - Click in the program column for each track and then pick a sound from the
     list.

   - For General MIDI, the various guitar sounds are assigned to patch numbers
25 through 32. For our purposes here, be sure to set both tracks to
     the same sound.

7) Go back to the Score Editor, by clicking on Window -> Score Editor from the
menu bar at the top of the screen.

8) Now start entering notes on the upper staff using the pencil tool. After
you've entered some notes, click on Track -> Merge from the menu bar at the
top of the screen and merge track 1 with track 2. The notes from track 1
will be copied to track 2, where they will be displayed in guitar
   tablature.

9) Vibrato & slide marks are available by selecting the Symbols button and
then the Adjust set. You only have to put these markings on the top staff.
The same merge command you used above will transfer these markings over as
   well.

10) IMPORTANT: SAVE THIS STEP UNTIL THE VERY END.
If one or more of the notes is playing on the wrong string, switch from
the Pencil Tool to the Select Tool and double-click on the incorrect
number on the wrong string. A drop down dialog will automatically appear.
Select 'String' and then choose the string you want the note to be played
on. (The reason you want to do this last is so when you merge tracks,
you don't get the same notes appearing over and over. You want to make
sure all of your merging is done, and then make these final adjustments.)

QUICK STEPS FOR NOTATION WIZARDS

1) Write out the entire track on one staff in treble clef
2) Select Track -> New
3) Hit the 'UP' key on the keyboard to move the cursor back to track one
4) Select Track -> Copy (1 to 2)
5) Select guitar tab from the 'Clefs' button (click twice to open clefs menu)
6) Click on the beginning of the desired track
7) If you make a mistake and you want to put it back to treble clef, just
select the treble clef from the clefs menu and click the beginning of the
   track again.
8) Read number 10 above if you need to change strings for some of the notes.

SAVING YOUR GUITAR TAB LAYOUT AS A TEMPLATE

1) Set up the file the way you want it to appear.
2) From the menu bar at the top of the screen, go to Window ? Comments
3) Type the name of your template here in the Comments window.
4) You then save the file in the TEMPLS directory. The TEMPLS directory is a
subdirectory of the Music Write program directory.

There is no limit to the number of template files you can have.
