The 'Make Legato' feature
This is one of the more powerful menu options that can make your notation
work go much more quickly and easily.
If you are notating a particular part and you have a stretch of time where
notes are played but no rests appear, do the following:

1) Find the shortest note played during that time. Choose that note from
the Duration palette in the upper left of the software.

EXAMPLE: If the shortest note played in the span of measures chosen
is an eighth note, choose eighth note from the duration palette.

2) Place that minimum rhythmic note value (an eighth note in this case)
at the initial attack of each desired note in your composition.

EXAMPLE: To display a figure of a quarter note (beat one), half note
            (beats 2 + 3) and a quarter note (beat 4) in a bar of 4/4, you
can first put an eighth note on beat 1, an eighth note on beat 2,
and another eighth note on beat 4. The program will add the
            necessary rests all by itself.

3) Select the entire range of notes you just entered and select 'Make Legato'
   from the drop down menu.

4) This changes all notes so that they end just as the next one begins.
   This eliminates all rests.

This technique speeds up your work in that you don't have to keep going back
to the Duration Palette and changing between half note, quarter note, eighth
note, quarter note, etc. You enter everything in its proper position as an
eighth note and then choose 'Make Legato' to eliminate all rests.

However, this technique only works for spans of measures with no rests.

If you used the 'Make Legato' technique and you need to enter a rest,
you do so by making the previous note shorter.

EXAMPLE: To make a half note into a quarter note and quarter rest,
erase the half note and enter it as a quarter.

The quarter rest will automatically appear in the gap.
If it does not, you probably have Display Rests off.
Go to Display -> Bar and change Display -> Rests to 'Yes'.
