Q: What are the general differences in features between MW Songwriter and
MW Maestro?
A: * MW Songwriter allows mouse or step keyboard entry of note durations
up to 16th notes and up to four bars per line / eight staves per
printed page. (Please note that "MW Starter Kit" is limited to one
Grand Staff).
* MW Maestro allows more flexibility in score creation and layout -
32nd and 64th notes can be entered with a mouse or by keyboard step
entry, and each printed page can have up to 36 staves (no numerical
limitation on bars per line).
* MW Maestro can export your score in picture format (BMP or TIF)
to be used in other applications and supports SMPTE sync.
* MW Maestro offers a Song Editor, Piano Roll and Graphic Controller
Editor.
* If you are used to working with MIDI Sequencers, the Piano Roll
Editor (available only in MW Maestro), will also allow you to
quickly alter all aspects of the notes including pitch and duration.
Any alterations you make here will also show up on the Score Editor.
* MW Maestro also offers the Time feature. This allows you to multiply
or divide the length of the selected note(s) by 2 or 3. However, this
option also slides all notes after the selected note(s) to make room
for the longer note or inversely fill in the gap after a shorter note.
* The "MW Starter Kit" is an entry level (beginner's) version
of the SongWriter program.
* All three of them can do 1st & 2nd Ending Repeats only.

point then play a 2nd ending?
A: Yes, they can do this.
**********************
Q: Can I start numbering measures at 15 instead of 1? It sounds like a
trivial problem but it really would help me.
A: Sorry, there's no way to do this.
**********************
Q: Can you set the tuplet value to any number other than 3?
A: They all have the tuplet value set to 3 by default and this value cannot
be modified.
**********************

A: Starter Kit, SongWriter & Maestro support long file names under Win 2k
or Win XP (both .mwk and .mid).

Upgrade from Music Write Plus:
Q: Do I need to have the old MW Plus installed in order to install one of
the current MW series programs?
A: Absolutely not. The 'upgrade' simply refers to the pricing. They are
separate applications altogether and do not rely on MW Plus in any way.
Upgrade pricing can be found here:

Q: I have used the old "Music Write Plus" for many years and it was great!
Since I am using Windows XP Home, I upgraded to "Music Write Songwriter"
only to find that it is too Advanced and complicated. Why couldn't this
be as simple as the previous version?
A: Please note that "complexity" is proportional to the available Features.
The more Features, the more complicated a program appears to be. Also,
there is always a learning curve with all 'new' Software.
