How does it work?

NOTES ON USE:
------------

USB Compatibility:
The "Audio Advantage Micro" is compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0
USB is only fully supported in Windows versions later than Windows 2000.
Earlier versions of Windows, and all versions of MS-DOS, are NOT SUPPORTED.
USB devices will not work in Win9x "MS-DOS Mode."

MacOS:
  Please see:
  http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/audioadvantage/aa_for_macs.asp
The Audio Advantage Micro works with the latest DirectX games for Windows.

                       *****************************

Playback no Recording:
The AA MICRO is a very high quality, PLAYBACK ONLY upgrade for laptops
and other PCs. It is not designed to record, from either digital or analog
sources. For recording, please check out the Turtle Beach AudioAdvantage
  AMIGO and ROADIE.

                       *****************************

Use with Laptop Internal Speakers:
The AA MICRO DOES NOT USE the internal speakers in your laptop. It cannot
be connected to the internal speakers of a laptop. The AA MICRO is designed
to be connected to external Powered Speakers or Headphones. Using the AA
MICRO, the sound quality will be greatly improved.

The AA MICRO *IS* a sound card. It can either replace or work alongside
the soundcard already in your PC.

The AA MICRO responds to the software controls from its Control Panel, or
from the Windows Mixer. Your laptop's volume control will only control its
  own built-in audio.

                       *****************************

Dimensions:
The AA MICRO is tiny (about 1" W by 2.25" L) There is only one output
connection for powered speakers or headphones, but it is *convertible*
from standard Line Level Output to Optical Digital Output.

                       *****************************

Dolby Digital:
The AA MICRO can pass up to 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS data to your home theater
  receiver.

The Optical Digital (S/PDIF) Out will pass any PCM or AC3 audio data sent
  through it, without format alteration.

If you play a DVD movie's 5.1 Surround soundtrack from a software DVD movie
player, you have the choice of listening to the soundtrack in stereo from
the Line Out, or send the Dolby Digital or DTS soundtrack through the
MICRO's Optical Digital Out and on to a suitable home theater receiver and
speakers to listen to TRUE 5.1 Surround Playback.

If you send digital audio data through the Digital Out, it will be sent out
virtually unaltered. No digital to analog conversion will be performed on
  the data.

Of course, if you use the Line Out, the digital audio data will be converted
to analog audio in STEREO, using the very high quality DAC built into the AA
  MICRO.

The Line Out will work great with the Line In or AUX inputs on your home
stereo or with any set of high-quality STEREO headphones. Please note that
our Ear Force X51 and HPA headphones require a soundcard with six separate
outputs, such as the Turtle Beach Montego DDL. You can use these headphones
with the AA MICRO, but only in stereo.

                       *****************************

MiniDisk compatibility:
You can use the AA MICRO to transfer PCM digital audio to your MiniDisk
or other digital recorder that has an Optical Digital Input. You can also
record from the MICRO's Line Output, but then you will need to use the Line
  In on your recorder.

                       *****************************

DSP Virtual Surround Effects:
The AA MICRO has DSP Virtual Surround effects you can turn On/Off from
within the Audio Advantage Control Panel (Effects tab).

                       *****************************

Switching between AA Micro and Internal Sound Card:
Thanks to USB technology, when you pull the device out of the USB port, wait
a few seconds and Windows should automatically switch itself back to using
the built in audio on your computer. You may also change the Playback device
in Sounds And Audio Devices in your Windows Control Panel.

                       *****************************

Optical Digital Output:
Need to use a Coax digital connection? Even though the AA Micro has an
Optical Digital Output only, you can use an optical-to-coax converter
between the AA MICRO and your external digital gear. These adapters are
available from several sources, including www.hosatech.com, Radio Shack,
music stores and other electronics specialty suppliers.

                       *****************************

Multichannel Support:
The Audio Advantage connects to Multichannel Speakers or Home Theater
Receivers through its Optical connection. The analog output (Line Out)
  is stereo, 2-channel.
