NetMeeting Compatibility?
Q: I have a Sony camera to a DVD recorder and Audio through a mixer. I want
to take a feed from the DVD recorder (live) and a feed from the mixer
(live) and sent it through your card to NetMeeting. Will this work?

A: The VideoAdvantage is not a TV card. It is a video capture only card.

S/PDIF Input & Output using Catalina:
Q: I own a Sony SPD-E800 digital sound processor that can take an analog
stereo input signal and convert it into a PCM data stream at 96 kHz.
I am hoping it would be possible to feed the sound from my VCR to the
Sony DSP and then into the Catalina sound card's S/PDIF input.
Will the video recording software shipped with the Video Advantage be able
to record this sound with the picture from the video-in port?
If not, is there software available to do this?

A: Yes, this should work but the digital in and out on the Catalina are not
full duplex, which means that you will not be able to 'monitor' the
incoming signal while Recording. After the recording is done you will
need to switch back to the analog output before you play the capture back.

Q: Can I use firewire instead of USB 2.0?

A: Yes you can use Firewire 1394. In fact 1394 will give you the best
    quality.

Built in Sound Card:
Q: I am interested in your Video Advantage PCI product. I am unclear on
something. My PC has a built in sound card. Will I be able to capture
video from my camcorder which is analog 8mm? Your site mentions plugging
your product into the sound card for audio input. Is this a problem?

A: The Video Advantage PCI has connections for composite video, S-Video and
1394. If your analog camcorder has composite or S-Video you would have no
problem using the Video Advantage PCI to capture your movies. You will
need some way to send audio from the camera to capture it on your
    computer.

You can check the owner's manual of your camera for any information you
need about your specific camcorder. As for your onboard sound card, it
shouldn't pose a problem as long as you have the latest drivers for the
sound card. Obviously, the better the quality of your sound card, the
better the quality of your audio capture and playback.

Lines at the bottom of the captured digital file:
Q: I am interested in purchasing your Video Advantage product but I have
few questions. I have purchased ADS and Plextor analog to digital converts
and I have been disappointed with both. The features for capturing and
other software included is fine, the problem is when I am doing transfers
from my VHS tapes, they all have a few lines at the bottom of the captured
digital file. I can not clean it up. It does not matter if I use
different vcr's or tapes, they all do the same thing on both products.
Will your product do this as well, or not?

A: In some instances you may have video noise if the frame size during
capture is larger than the captured frame size. There will be a band of
noise across the bottom of the file, but it will not show on a TV when
    played back.

Bitrates for Video Capture (PCI, ADX, USB):
Q: Can I increase or decrease the Video capture software Bitrate?

A: The capture Bitrate for the Video Advantage is 9 bits for the USB version
and 10 bits for the PCI & ADX versions. This cannot be changed.

                       *****************************

Bitrates for Audio Capture:
Q: Can I increase or decrease the Audio capture software Bitrate?

A: The Video Advantage is a video capture system. Audio is captured via
your audio card. We include the AudioSurgeon so that you can Edit audio
    as you need to.

                       *****************************

Q: Is this a hardware compression device?

A: - If you are capturing your file to .avi it is hardware encoded
    - If you capture in any of the compressed formats such as mpeg-1
or mpeg-2, the compression takes place in the software.
