Connections PCI 1

Here is the hierarchy in quality:
(DV 1394 being the best and Composite the poorest)
        1. DV 1394
        2. S-Video
        3. Composite
(Please NOTE: the USB model does not support 1394 connections)

Sound Card Connections: (PCI ONLY)
If you are connecting using DV 1394 you do not need to connect to
the Sound Card Input as this is carried by the 1394 connection.
You need to connect the Sound Card Input when using S-Video or Composite.

Connection w. Sound Card:
Q: On your tech support FAQs, there are several mentions that you must make
a connection between the analog audio source of a VCR to the Line In on
the computer's sound card. I only have the USB connected to the computer
    - the audio is connected to the external video advantage unit. What is
going on here? Would it be better to connect the audio directly to the
sound card, and if so how should I configure the sound card and computer?

A: Using the Video Advantage USB, you can transfer video and audio through
the USB interface. You do not need to access the sound card at the time
of capture. These references are for the PCI or ADX series.

                       *****************************

Front USB Port: (PCI specific)
Q: The USB wire that goes from the front unit, where is that supposed to go?

A: The front USB port is a pass through to a USB port on the back of the PC
or to a USB header on your motherboard (if your motherboard has one).
If you already have a USB 2.0 port on the front of the PC then this
    connection is not needed.

                       *****************************

VCR Connection:
When recording through the 1394 port, the audio is recorded as part of
your video file, there are no Syncing issues and you do not need any
Audio Connections. Since VCRs do not have Firewire connections as of yet,
you are forced to use S-Video or Composite connections.

Since in these cases, the Sound is carried by your Sound Card, in order
to get the Sound to work along with the Video, you would need to connect
the Left (White) and Right (Red) RCA audio output connectors coming from
your VCR to the Line In on your sound card. You would need to use a cable
that has 2 Stereo RCA jacks on one end and a 1/8 " mini Stereo Jack at the
    other end.

Finally, you need to make sure that you have the *Line In* selected as
your recording source in the Windows mixer (Recording Options Properties)

                       *****************************

VCR Connections:
Q: Where would I connect the left and right RCA audio output connectors
    coming from the VCR?

A: To the Line In on your sound card.

Capturing Audio using Santa Cruz:
Q: How do I configure my Santa Cruz to capture the audio when I am capturing
    video from my camcorder?

A: - Connect the Line out from the Camcorder to the blue Line In jack on
       the Santa Cruz.
    - Set the audio recording setting to Line In in your capture program.

                       *****************************

Capturing Audio does not work:
Q: How can I capture audio? right now only video capture is working.

A: Please make sure that:
      - The audio out connections are connected correctly to your sound card
      - The Line In is selected as the recording source in the capture
        application.

                       *****************************
S-Video:
Q: How do I hook up the audio to your board when using S video?

A: The S-Video connection only carries the video stream. You would need to
connect the audio from your recording source to the inputs of your sound
card. For example, if you are recording from a VCR you would need to
connect the RCA outputs on the VCR to an RCA to stereo 1/8" adapter.
You would then plug the adapter into the Line In of your sound card.

PCI specific:
Q: Please help were the instructions leave off. After installing your Turtle
Beach Video Advantage PCI per step by step instructions, the video and
audio during preview are present but after test capture (recording) no
audio can be heard. The same results when test recording on the mfg
    installed video creation software.

After rechecking all connections and troubleshooting, the only issue
I see that might be the cause is the audio must be inputted to the
capture card first as when the front panel is used. However, one of
the attractions of this product was you could use front panel or back of
card A/V connections. As is there is no spare front bay (5.25') to install
the front panel and no additional information on using only the back A/V
card connections the front panel was not installed.

Please provide the necessary options or configuration for proper audio
input without the optional front panel. All indications point to this as
audio source recording trouble as the preview audio is normal with the
only connections available bypassing the capture card (no line audio in
on back) to the mfg installed sound card.

A: The Video Advantage PCI capture card only captures the video stream.
The audio inputs are passed through to your sound card. If you are
capturing composite video, connect the two RCA adapters to your camera
at one end and to a stereo female RCA to 1/8" stereo male jack.

You would then use the line in of your sound card. Make sure that you have
the line in selected as your recording source in the Windows mixer. You
would use the same setup if you are recording from S-Video. If you are
recording through the 1394 port, the audio will be recorded as part of
your video file, so you do not need the Audio Connections.
