TV Display Size of Captured Video?
Q: I see that I can only capture with a 720*480 for with your Video Advantage
card. My question is what will that look like when I burn my movies to a
DVD and have someone play them via a DVD player on a TV? Will it just be a
little screen like it is on my PC monitor or will it fill the screen like
it does now when I play it on the TV directly from my camera?
A: It will be full size on your TV screen. As for your computer monitor, it
can also be full screen if you select it from the Video Player program;
Media Player etc. Of course, in order to save processing overhead, during
Capture the "Preview window" will be small and you cannot set it at full
screen.

Using VDA as a TV Card???
Q: Can I watch S-video input stream in 1024 x 768 resolution with NO overlays
and NO interlacing in direct RGB24 (RGB12) mode (over WDM driver or with
your included software)?
A: Sorry, this is not a TV card. This is a video capture card. The capture
monitor window cannot be resized to full screen. You can view the captured
video back in Windows Media Player, in its full-screen mode.

Capture from TV?
Q: Will your video capture card also capture video straight from TV coming
in on the composite inputs?
A: It will capture from your TV or Tuner's Composite Output.
*****************************
Capture Video From TV (not VCR):
Q: Will it enable me to capture video from TV (not from VCR) into a digital
form?
A: Yes it will, if your TV has a composite or S-Video video out.

TV Tuner / Capture from TV:
Q: In the Cyberlink PowerDirector 3 user's guide on page 40 there are
instructions for capturing from TV. Could you give me more information
regarding this? There is no connector that I can find for a coaxial cable
for TV on the card or the front panel module. Since the documentation
references being able to change channels, I have assumed that either there
is a tuner on the card or the card connects to a TV tuner in some way.
Please clarify.
A: The tuner or TV needs to have a composite or S-Video output to connect
the VideoAdvantage in order to capture the signal.
*****************************
Capture from TV:
Q: Why is there a separate choice for capturing from TV and why do the
instructions talk about changing channels with the PowerDirector program
if I am just capturing by S-Video or Composite?
A: The software can also be used with other devices / hardware as well.
You would need a TV Tuner card installed in the PC for those features
to work and to Capture from it. If you just want to capture what is
displaying on the TV you would need to use a composite or S-Video
connection. The VideoAdvantage is not a TV card it is a video capture
card.

Q: Can you transfer video from a Tivo to your PC with this product?
A: You can capture video from your Tivo using the Tivo's Composite or
S-Video video out.

Record like TIVO? Timer Option?
Q: Does the Video Advantage PCI have the ability to record live television
shows? I like to record television shows while I am not home for later
viewing. Would it be possible to connect this to the audio/ video out on
my VCR and set it to record the broadcast as it occurs (on the same
premise as a DVR like TIVO)? If this is all possible is it safe to assume
that I would be able to burn the recording to disc (say a news clip or a
documentary for school, etc.)?
A: There is no timer option in this product to allow you to start recording
at a later time.
*****************************
HDTV (High Definition) Support:
Q: Is your Video Advantage PCI card able to take in as input HDTV
(high definition) format frames and is it also able to edit them?
A: Sorry, it does not support High Definition. This is a Video Capture
product.

Capture HDTV:
Q: When I attempt to capture video from my Sony HDR-FX1, using AD FullCap &
the 1394 connection, I have to reduce the camcorder's video output
resolution from HDV (1080i) to DV. Is there someway to capture HDTV
(1080i) video using the Video Advantage board? If not, do you have
another capture card for HD video?
A: At this time, the Video Advantage card does not support HDV. We do not
have a capture board right now that will work with this format.

Q: I'm looking at the Video Advantage USB product your website lists and it
says I could plug it in to either my camcorder or my VCR. We have a
Dish Network PVR 501/508.
http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/pdf/product_brochures/dish_508.pdf
Will the Video Advantage USB product work with the PVR?
A: Looking at the back of the unit, there appear to be both composite and
S-video connections. Theoretically, you should be able to connect the
dish receiver to the Video Advantage USB and use it as your capture
source. Please be aware of any copyright issues as they may pertain to
any captured streams from your dish network receiver.
*****************************
Q: Will the Video Advantage USB read input from a Dish Network DVI recorder
and allow them to be put onto a DVD?
A: Whether you can capture anything from your DVI recorder would depend on
whether or not the device outputs any kind of copy protection. If it does,
like the DAT machines of the late 80's/early 90's employed SCMS, then you
would not be able to capture anything. You would need to contact the
manufacturer and see if it is possible to copy data sent from the DVI
recorder.

Q: I was capturing a VHS tape and burned the DVD. When I play it back on my
42 inch Plasma TV it takes up the whole screen and stretches the picture.
I cannot reduce the screen size on the TV, my DVD player has an HDMI 1080
screen and won't let me change it. Is there something I can do to correct
this? Or is it the DVD player. Thank You
A: The DVD format is very specific. You may wish to have a look at the user's
manual for your TV and DVD player to see if there is a way to alter the
aspect ratio of a DVD being viewed.

Commercials elimination?
Q: Can the Video Advantage pause during a recording, such as during a
commercial break?
A: The Video Advantage as a video capture device, does NOT have a way to
differentiate between types of material to pause between commercials.
With the included software, you can edit out the commercials once you
have captured your video footage.

Firewire Connection via DVR Cable Box:
Q: I connected your firewire connection to that on the back of my Comcast
(Motorola) DVR cable box. The cable box does not have any available RGB
connections because it is a high def box and is running 5 cables to the
television (using up the RGB plus black and blue), so I cannot use s-video
or composite. (At CompUSA your product was recommended to me because it
has a firewire connection.)
A: Please make sure that the FireWire connection from your Comcast DVR cable
box is the EXACT SAME type of connection as that from a typical DV
camcorder. While a IEEE1394 cable is usually used for FireWire connections
it can also be used for other, proprietary connections. So the cable may
look the same but may not carry the same data.
Our Video Advantage is designed to accept standard FireWire digital video,
as that from Sony i-Link or other DV cameras. Your Comcast box may have
something different that is carried by the same type cable. Please contact
Comcast to find out if their DVR cable box outputs the same type of signal
as DV camcorders.

Q: What I am attempting to do is watch wrestling matches from the internet
on my computer, and then be able to transfer the image on to my Sony
television. I'm thinking there has got to be something in my Control
Panel but am not sure what that is. Do you have any suggestions? CompUSA
said this was the devise I needed. If I cannot figure out how to get it
to work I'll have to return it.
A: The Video Advantage products are designed for video capture. In other
words, they're designed to record video onto the hard drive so you can
edit it and make a DVD movie disc out of it. They are not designed for
watching TV on your computer. Maybe the CompUSA guys thought you wanted
to *record* your wrestling matches onto DVDs?
