Which one? PCI, ADX, USB:
Q: We are considering to buy your Video Advantage USB interface in order to
transfer some 8mm video tapes we have taken during the previous weeks of
some equipment training. We are worried about the quality of the final
recordings, because we have seen previous recordings of computer videos
with low quality, that can be used only as reference, because the original
recording in VHS or 8mm tape always look better than the captured video.
A: The USB capture should be fine but if you are looking for the highest
quality possible, then we would suggest the VideoAdvantage PCI or ADX.
The PCI & ADX versions offer 10 bit resolution. The USB is at 9 bit.

Which one? PCI, ADX, USB:
Q: I am interested in understanding the difference between 9 bit and 10 bit
video capture, the tradeoffs between the PCI versus the USB Video
Advantage product.
A: The higher the video capture bit the more colors can be captured producing
a better picture. The PCI & ADX versions offer the highest quality
captures, while the USB offers the ease of connecting without installing
a PCI card on the motherboard.

Q: I am considering buying one of your video capture products, in
particular, the video advantage usb. I noticed that it is a 9 bit
resolution device compared to 10 bit for the other two devices. I prefer
the portability of the USB but am concerned about the resolution loss.
Is this significant or am I making a mountain out of a molehill so to
speak?
A: Well, as they say "there is no free lunch". It is hard to say. For the
average user the difference would not be noticeable. On the other hand,
to a trained eye, experienced in Video-Editing processes, it might make
a difference.

Q: I have a pre-sales question about the applicability of your products to
my needs. Here is what I need to do:
1) Archive a large collection of computer audio/video files (WMV, MPEG,
AVI, Quicktime, etc;) that range from short clips to short films.
This process will involve first converting the various formats and
associated codecs to a common popular format, such as maybe AVI or MWV
or perhaps MPEG. Then, after conversion, a separate viewable version
of the archive will be made by creating one or more DVDs that contain
related video files on subject oriented discs. The DVDs MUST be
playable then using standard "set-top" DVD players without a computer.
Accordingly, it will be necessary to somehow write the files to DVD
so that they appear as named chapters, or as film clips selectable via
a menu structure on the DVD.
2) Archive a collection of training videos AND home movies that currently
reside on video tape and DVD. In the case of films already on DVD, I
want to pick and choose selections from the DVDs, reorganize them and
create new DVDs with the selections available for viewing via a
chapter/menu structure. In the case of films on video tape, I would
want to do the same as with the DVD source material, with the added
requirement of importing the audio & composite video from camcorder
or VHS deck into the computer via USB.
It appears to me that one or more of your products will do most of this
but it is not clear if all of my requirements are met. Please advise on
which of your products will do these things.
A: Any of our VideoAdvantage products will do what you requested.

Monochrome or color Burst?
Q: Will this capture/display *true* NTSC monochrome (no color burst)?
A: At present, the product does not support true monochrome.
*****************************
Lines Of Resolution:
Q: How many *actual* lines of resolution will this display in NTSC mode?
Many of these devices are advertised as 720 X 480, but will not display
a full 480 lines -- cutting off "overscan" to maybe 460 or so visible
vertical lines.
A: The actual display is 720 x 480
*****************************
Q: Can the video being captured be simultaneously displayed on my PC monitor
in a *scalable* window. If not, what is the display size?
A: The Video Advantage software comes with the AD FullCap software as well
as an OEM version of Cyberlink's Power Director. The preview windows
in these applications are scalable. They come with defaults for 180x120,
360x240, 720x480 and custom.
