Copyrights FAQ
COPYRIGHTS:
Please respect the rights of copyright holders and refrain from recording
anything onto a DVD or CD if you do not have the rights to do so. If you
are unsure of your rights, please consult your legal advisor.

Q: I have permission to reproduce a copyrighted title that I have from video
to DVD. Is there any way around the copyright protection. I'm on a time
line and would appreciate a prompt response.

P.S. Seems to me that TurtleBeach should leave it to the user to shoulder
the responsibility of reproducing copyrighted footage.

A: Due to the copyright laws, circumventing copyright protection is illegal.
Since you have permission from the copyright holder to copy a video tape
to DVD, my best suggestion is simply ask them if you could obtain a tape
without the copy protection in place.

While it is true that the end user should shoulder the responsibility
for copying a copyrighted work, the legal liability of introducing a
technology that would allow an end user to copy a work they do not own
would be the responsibility of the manufacturer of said technology.

Copyright Error:
Q: Every time I try to use the supplied Cyberlink Power Director to copy home
VHS to MPEG, I get a copyright error, which is absurd. Works ok in fullcap
but there is no way to compress to MPG. So if there is no way to record to
mpg and burn to dvd the program will not suite my needs and I will return
    it. Hope you can help.

A: It is possible that the protection feature was set to on, on the camcorder
that recorded the original tapes. If so, make your capture in AD FullCap
and save your file either in .avi or DV interleaved format. Once you have
your file saved, you can import it into Power Director and make use of the
    features available in that software.

Error: "The Material Is Copy Protected":
Q: I have successfully set up my Betamax machine to write to disk. The tapes
I need to record on CDs are privately made. After about a while, I get a
message that the material is copy protected and cannot be processed.
At this time the progress panel stops showing the number of packets being
written. I cannot find an obvious solution to this problem.

A: It is possible that you had the Copyright or Protection feature enabled
on your camcorder. You may want to try capture your video with ADFullCap.
After you have captured your video you can import it into Power Director
    for editing & burning.

Also, please make sure that your Betamax does not have a copy protection
    feature enabled.

Q: I recently purchased the Video Advantage which includes Cyberlink's
PowerProducer Express. In addition to non-commercial DVD production,
I am also planning on distributing (on a small scale) a DVD for commercial
    sale.

I want to be sure that, if I use the Cyberlink PowerProducer Express to
create the main menu (which includes some of their artwork, etc), that
I would not be in violation of the terms of agreement of the product,
if I were to sell copies of a DVD that included such a main menu.

A: Your particular request involves Cyberlink and we cannot speak out on
their behalf. Generally speaking, you cannot use any Copyrighted material
    for profit.
