Q: Can I use this card: TurtleBeach Video Advantage PCI Video Capture to
a do a low budget live webcast? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I intend to use flash Comm. Server for the encoding engine.

A: The Video Advantage is a capture only device, so it wouldn't be suitable
for your particular use. You would need software to compress the video
data on the fly to a suitable format and be able to select an output from
your capture device to send the data to a streaming server for broadcast
on the web. The Video Advantage is designed primarily for taking captured
video (from a DV, VCR, etc.) creating a file and burning this to DVD, VCD,
    SVCD.

Integrated Video Card on mobo:
Q: Do I need a separate video card in order for this to work or is an
integrated video card on my motherboard ok? and if so, do I have to
adjust anything with that card? Thank you.

A: Obviously, the better the video card the better the quality of your
Preview and any associated Editing you may need to do. That being said,
your onboard video card should be just fine for your use.

Q: I have old movies on VHS tape which are not available on DVD and probably
never will be. I have tried to copy from VHS to DVD using the AVerMedia
EZMaker A/D converter and Nero software. My computer is a Dell 8200,
2.4 MHz Pentium P4, 1GB memory. The capture to disc is "jerky", some
frames last several seconds, and audio and Video are out of sync. Would
your Turtle Beach Video Advantage solve my Problem? Thank you for any
    help you can give me.

A: There could be processes running in the background, that are using up
CPU cycles creating the "jerky video" as well as contributing to the
latency issues that you are experiencing. While we cannot speak for other
products, the Video Advantage will allow you to capture video at a high
    quality.

Digital Transfer:
Q: I'm not sure which product I would need. I have a Sony DCR-TRV260 digital
video camera recorder. It records onto Hi-8 tapes. My understanding is
that these tapes will degrade after fifteen years or so. I would like to
transfer them to DVD. Your Video Advantage USB seems like what I want
however it seems to only transfer analog camcorders, not digital
camcorders like mine. Which product will do what I am describing?

A: - With the exception of ADAT, most VHS tapes are in Analog format
    - Hi-8 tapes can be Analog or Digital.
    - The "Video Advantage USB" will transfer from digital Camcorders under
this condition: Your system must already have one existing 1394 port
to do direct digital transfer from your digital video equipment).
Otherwise, the right product for this task would be the PCI or ADX
       version.
     - The ADX & PCI versions do not require this condition, since even if
a System does not have or support 1394, it will be supported after
the installation of either one of the two.

                       *****************************

S-Video and sound:
Q: Understanding that the ADX edit sound like your PCI can (since it does
not include AudioSurgeon), does it have a sound input to capture sound
with the video from the VHS tape or camcorder? Also, in a connected
question, can the S-Video input carry video and sound, or just video?

A: S-video only carries video. The audio capturing is done by your sound
card for both the ADX and PCI versions. You connect the source's audio out
    to your sound card's input.

To PCI or to USB?
Q: What is the impact of 9 bit vs.10 bit resolution video capture as
specified in your product comparison chart? Is this something that will
affect the quality that is actually seen? This will help me to decide
between the Video AdvantageŽ USB (which really sounds neat) and the Video
    AdvantageŽ ADX.

A: The bit depth of color resolution would be obvious to a trained
professional. The higher the bit depth the more colors you can discern.
For the average user, the bit depth resolution would not be as obvious.
With the Video Advantage USB you have the advantage of being able to use
the product with a laptop computer since the device is powered from the
USB bus. With the ADX and PCI versions, you would need a tower and you
would need to install the card in the computer.

Segment into separate clips while Capturing?
Q: Can your products automatically segment an analog HI-8 tape into separate
clips when capturing an entire tape from a HI-8 camcorder? Adobe Premiere
Elements will do this for DV tapes captured from my DV camcorder but will
not do this for analog tapes that are "passed thru" my DV camcorder. The
analog tapes are recorded as one clip which makes editing a nightmare.

A: Analog tapes will be recorded linearly. They will not be segmented as
there is no digital information encoded within the stream with which to
    segment the file.
