Here is the hierarchy in quality:
(DV 1394 being the best and Composite the poorest)
1. DV 1394
2. S-Video
3. Composite
(Please NOTE: the USB model does not support 1394 connections)

Sound Card Connections:
If you are connecting using DV 1394 you do not need to connect to
the Sound Card Input as this is carried by the 1394 connection.
You need to connect the Sound Card Input when using S-Video or Composite.

S-Video In Jack:
Q: I understand what all the jacks are used for and how to use them
except the S-Video In. I'm not quite sure what this cable connector is
for. I also have one of these jacks on my Video Card, along with a DVI
Connector.
A: - USB version:
Connects an S-Video signal from your analog VCR or camcorder.
- PCI & ADX version:
Connects an S-Video input to the VA PCI card.
S-Video is a higher quality analog connection that is used by higher
quality analog video cameras. If you are capturing via DV, you wouldn't
use this connection anyway. You can obtain more information about the
S-Video format and specification by visiting your local library or doing
a search on the internet.
