Q: I would like to know if any of the TB video capture cards do MPEG 2
decoding onboard the card. I want to get a card that willl go from
analog video to MPEG 2 using the card.

A: Now that Windows PCs with 2GHz and faster processors are inexpensive and
commonplace, quite acceptable results can be achieved using software and
the processing power of the host PC. The Video Advantage products are
designed to be easy-to-use and reasonably priced solutions for editing of
'home videos' and hobbyist projects, leveraging the low price of software
and current computers to get results that only a few years ago required
    professional-grade video editing equipment.

You get analog-to-digital conversion for recording VHS tapes to digital
video, direct-digital transfer of digital video from your DV camcorder,
a FireWire port and a USB 2.0 port, all for what a simple FireWire adapter
card cost a few short years ago, complete with capable video capture and
editing software. We think it is a powerful product at a very attractive
    price.

However, for truly professional, 'broadcast quality' applications, you
may consider investing the additional money in a truly professional
video-editing setup. For some this is absolutely necessary, but this would
be overkill for the vast majority of home users, which is why we offer our
    Video Advantage products.
