Features and Usage for Court Reporters
The AA_Amigo & AA_SRM have become quite popular among court reporters,
who need a small and easy-to-use audio interface for audio recording
of proceedings for later transcriptions.

Often, customers will contact us wanting to know the best way to make
the clearest possible recordings in difficult environments.

Courtrooms are often large rooms with hard glass windows and bare walls, which
cause lots of echoes and unwanted reverberations. This can cause recordings to
sound murky or garbled.

One of the best tools for making clearer recordings in such difficult
surroundings is a "shotgun" microphone. There are some fairly inexpensive
ones that are compatible with our Audio Advantage USB recording Sound devices.

A shotgun mic is very, very "directional." It should be pointed directly at
the sound source you want to record. A shotgun mic will reject sounds from
off to its sides, which should make the desired sound much clearer. But if
you forget to point the mic at the sound to be recorded, you may not hear it
at all!

Look for a shotgun mic that is a battery-powered electret-condenser type,
and that has a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) mini-phone plug that is compatible with
the Audio Advantage's Microphone input.

You can also use a Pressure Zone Boundary (PZM) "Sound Grabber" microphone,
but it's hard to say whether this will give you better or worse results than
a shotgun mic. Again, make sure the mic you choose is battery-powered and has
a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) mini-phone plug that is compatible with the Audio
Advantage's Microphone input.

In a pinch, the Audio Advantage's built-in mic will provide decent results,
even in difficult circumstances. It's nice to have that as a fail-safe,
in case your mic breaks or its battery goes dead.

We hope this helps you obtain the best results from your Turtle Beach Audio
Advantage Amigo and SRM.
