This is most likely caused by a memory range conflict.
1) Check the "config.sys" file for a memory manager such as would be
installed by a program designed to run in MS-DOS. The entries in
Config.sys will look like this:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
You can disable these lines by putting the letters REM and a space
at the beginning of each line. They should look like this after
the changes have been made:
REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
2) There may also be a memory range exclusion in the C:\Windows\System.ini
file. This will appear in the [386enh] section of "system.ini"
(with an EMMExclude= line), typically appearing like this:
[386enh]
EMMExclude=D000-D7FF
You should disable this line by putting in a semicolon at the beginning
of this line in System.ini. The line should now look like this:
[386enh]
;EMMExclude=D000-D7FF
3) We are almost ready to put the memory exclusion in the Windows Device
Manager that will 'lock in' the memory range used by the Pinnacle or
Fiji. But first, find out what memory range the TBS Pro Series
Digital Audio is set to use:
- Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel | System | Device Manager.
- Open the section named Sound, video and game controllers.
Double click on the TBS Pro Series Digital Audio icon.
This will open the TBS Pro Series Digital Audio Properties window.
- Now click on the Resources tab, and look next to where it says
Memory Range, in the "Resources settings" column.
From the screenshot above, you can see that the memory range used by
the TBS Pro Series Digital Audio is 000D0000-000D7FFF. Your settings
may be different. Write down the Memory setting for your Pinnacle or
Fiji card. Click on Cancel to close the TBS Pro Series Digital Audio
Properties window.
4) You should now be back at the Device Manager. Scroll back up and
double click the Computer icon at the top of the Device Manager
"tree". This will open the Computer Properties window. Click on
the Reserve Resources tab and then click on the Memory radio button.
5) Click on the Add button. The Edit Resource window will open.
- In the Start value: field enter the first number you saw in the Memory
setting in TBS Pro Series Digital Audio | Resources tab (on your system).
– In the End value: field, enter the second number as it appeared
in the TBS Pro Series Digital Audio | Resources tab.
The proper settings should look something like this:
NOTE:
The settings on your system may be different than those pictured above.
6) Now click OK, and then click Refresh in the Device Manager. If your
system accepts the changes you will see the mouse cursor turn to an
hourglass for a few seconds and return to normal. Click Close in
the Device Manager, shut down and reboot. The sound and MIDI should
now be working.

If you are still experiencing problems, the system may have a SCSI controller
or other device that is not reporting its used resources correctly in the
Windows Device Manager. Read and follow the instructions in Install Tricks
(Troubleshooting Bible) in the VTB FAQs/Knowledge Base.
