This error usually indicates that there is nothing attached to the Digital
In connection, or whatever is attached there isn't hooked up correctly or
isn't working right.
* NOTHING ATTACHED:
Something needs to be attached to the card in order to receive digital
data. If you don't want to record from the Digital I/O, do not select the
S/PDIF as an input. (You must explicitly select the digital in when you
want to use it.)
* DAT MACHINE ATTACHED BUT DIGITAL I/O IS NOT WORKING:
The DAT needs to broadcast a clock signal on the S/PDIF output (90% do.)
If this clock signal isn't there, the Fiji will tell you that there's
nothing attached. Turning on a DAT before the computer is on can cause
the Fiji to lose synch with the DAT. You can avoid this by turning on
the computer, then the DAT machine. Or with the computer On, turn the DAT
first Off and then On.
Many portable DAT recorders have only one jack for both input/output.
In these cases you will not be able to make the S/PDIF transfer work.
This is because the clock is only broadcast when the DAT is in playback
mode. Such DATs are always in Record mode until they are explicitly told
to play something, at which time the clock signal is generated and sent via
the cable to the S/PDIF Input on the Fiji.
Most DATs with only one jack for both in and out will have an optional
accessory connection with a separate In and Out jack.
* Digital I/O Bracket:
Make certain that the Digital I/O Bracket cable is connected to jumper JP1
on the Fiji card. The Red (wire) should be on the pin towards the top of
the card.
