- Windows Millennium will automatically install the Malibu using the Windows
ME native Crystal WDM drivers.
- Digital audio, Wavetable MIDI and FM MIDI are all functional.
- For the MIDI In function to work, an IRQ needs to be assigned to the
MPU-401. The procedure is similar to Win 9x.
1. Right click on My Computer, click properties.
2. Click on Device Manager.
3. Click the + in front of Sound, Video and Game controllers to expand
the list.
4. Right click on Crystal WDM MPU-401 Compatible, and click properties.
5. Click on Resources.
6. Uncheck Use Automatic Settings.
7. Change Settings Based on: to Basic Configuration 0002.
8. Click on Interrupt Request.
9. Click Change Setting.
10. Change value to an IRQ (5,7,9,or 11) that will not conflict with any other
devices in the system.
- The Wavestream software synthesizer will not install, as the program
requires that Win 9x be installed.
- The SRS Surround feature is a built in part of the WDM Crystal drivers.
The controls for this (Center and Space) must be enabled in the Windows
Volume Control. To do this, click Start - > Run and type in sndvol32 and
click OK. Now click Options - > Properties.
On the "Show the following volume controls:" list, SRS Center and SRS Space
need to be checked.
Click OK and the Volume controls look like this:
- Since the several of the volume levels are set very low by default,
they should be raised for adequate volume:
- The Microsoft Soft Synth installs by default but there is a MIDI delay.
In order to use the Malibu's internal wavetable synth, the Crystal MPU-401
needs to be set as the MIDI out device. To do this, click:
Start - > Settings - > Control Panel and double-click on Sounds and
Multimedia. Click on the Audio Tab.
- Under "MIDI Music Playback", change the "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth"
to "Crystal MPU-401" and click ok.
