Joystick/Gamepad reports: "Not Connected"
 1. Reboot the computer into Safe Mode. 
 2. Open Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager. 
 3. Remove the drivers for the Gameport. 
 4. You may see what are called "ghost drivers" - multiple "extra" drivers 
    which only show up in Safe Mode.  Remove these also. 
 5. Restart the computer in Normal Mode. 
 6. Let Windows re-install your Gameport driver if the system is PnP. 
 7. If not, open the Control Panel -> Add New Hardware, and re-install the
    driver. 
 8. Remove the Joystick software. 
 9. Reboot.
10. Re-install the Joystick software. 
11. Re-install whatever version of Direct X you were running prior to all
    of this.
