Audio levels reset on every boot 
Chances are you have a program like the ATi Video Player or RealPlayer loading
at Startup that grabs control of the audio device. RealPlayer G2 features a
"SmartStart" program that loads in your system tray when Windows loads. Older
versions of this program have been known to reset audio levels.
