Setting up rear speakers for A3D Surround in Windows 98:
1. Open the Multimedia Control Panel (Start | Settings | Control Panel |
Multimedia).
2. Click on the Advanced button to the left of the Preferred device: listing
(the Advanced button has a yellow speaker on it). This will bring up the
Advanced Audio Properties dialog.
In Speaker Setup:, the default is Desktop Stereo Speakers. From the
drop-down list choose Quadraphonic Speakers.
Then click OK. You may now close the Multimedia Control Panel. Leave the
Control Panel open.
3. Go back to the Control Panel and open the Montego II Quadzilla Control
Panel applet. Click on the A3D Settings tab. In A3D Output Mode the
default setting will be Satellite Speakers. Change this to Quad Speakers
in the drop down list.
NOTE:
2046 driver users must click on EQ tab and select CDROM to get
CD audio out the rear speakers. The EQ tab will only be available
with the 2046 drivers.
Close the Montego II Control Panel applet and the Control Panel.
4. Now open the Windows Mixer (Start | Programs | Accessories | Entertainment
| Volume Control). Make sure the Rear Speaker volume control is not muted
(no check mark in its Mute box). Please note that the Master Volume
Control does not control the Rear Speaker level; use the Rear Speaker fader
to control the level of the rear speakers.
USER TIPS:
1. Sound from a CD Audio disc will play through both the normal Line Output
(green jack on Montego II) and the Rear Speaker or 'Auxiliary' Output
on the daughter board.
- The Quadzilla's Rear Speakers fader in the Windows Volume Control mixer
(labeled S/PDIF Out in the Montego II Home Studio) must not be muted;
meaning that no checkmark should appear in the Mute box.
Also, Enable Quad Audio should have a checkmark in the Rear Speakers
Advanced Properties. Just remember that enabling the Rear Speakers
disables the S/PDIF output and vice-versa.
- The CD Audio input must be enabled in the Windows Volume Control mixer.
- The CD audio cable must be properly connected from the Line Outputs
of the CD-ROM drive to the CD Audio socket on the Montego II card
(internal connection). This is the black socket on the top of the card.
2. A wavetable daughter board synthesizer such as the Cancun FX attached to
the wavetable header (MPU-401 port) cannot play through the rear speakers
or the S/PDIF output.
3. Audio coming in from the Aux or TAD inputs on the Montego II cannot be
played through the rear speakers or S/PDIF output.
