DirectX 7 - games crashing 
If the problems with DX7 appear in cases where you have installed DX7
after installing the game, try reinstalling the game that presents the
problem after the installation of DX7 (remember to back up your saved 
game files). 

There seems to be a problem with the way DX7 updates the system registry 
that causes problems with some games.
