1. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Double-click on Device Manager.
3. Double-click on the category for the device whose resources you want
to change. For example, to change resources for a sound card,
click "Sound, Video & Game Controllers".
4. Double-click on the device you want to change the resources for.
5. Write down the current settings for that device.
6. Click on the Resources tab.
7. Clear the check box for "Use automatic settings".
8. Click on the resource to change and click the Change button.
9. If you cannot change the setting, click on "Basic Configuration 000"
and change it to Basic Configuration 001 (or some other number).
Note: Some devices (such as PCI IRQ assignments) cannot be changed
in Windows and must be changed in the computer BIOS setup.
10. As you change a resource setting, Windows will tell you if the setting
conflicts with another device in your system.
11. Click [OK] to apply the new settings. Depending on your hardware, you
may have to restart Windows.
12. If Windows does not boot up after the change, boot into Safe Mode and
try another resource setting. (To enter Safe Mode, press [F8] when the
computer boots and displays "Starting Windows 95/98" on the screen.)
