The following instructions allow updating the firmware in the Turtle Beach USB
1x1 MIDI interface. The latest firmware corrects an issue found when the USB
MIDI Interface is used with some synthesizers whose MIDI output causes errors
in the recorded MIDI data. After downloading this firmware into the device,
the MIDI data errors should be corrected and the device will record properly
with the offending keyboard.
The update process requires the following files:
- Updater.Exe: This is the program used for transferring the firmware from
the PC to the USB MIDI interface.
- TBU11_ROM.BIN: This is version 0A of the firmware, current as of 11/21/2005
Procedure:
WARNING! Do not disconnect the USB cable or turn the PC power off while the
Firmware update is running, as a failed update may render your cable
useless.
This Firmware update should be applied only to the square shaped USB MIDI
Cable. It does not apply to the kidney bean shaped USB MIDI Cable.
REMEMBER: If it ain't broke don't fix it:
This procedure assumes the USB MIDI interface has already been installed on
the PC used for updating the firmware. The entire procedure should not take
more than 30 seconds.
1. Double-click on the file usb_000a.zip. The zip file should open with the
Windows Extraction Wizard or whatever application you have installed that
handles ZIP files. Select the option to extract all files. The Windows
Extraction Wizard will give you the option to extract to your desired
directory. Extract them to your Desktop or the 'My Documents' folder so
you'll remember where they are. Make sure that both files are extracted
to the same directory. The name of the created directory by default will
be MidiFix_Test001.
2. Insert the USB MIDI interface into the USB port.
3. When the systray icon changes from a TB Palm Tree to the "green light"
icon, launch Updater.Exe by double clicking the icon in the directory
listing.
4. From the Updater screen, click on the Turtle Beach USB MIDI 1x1 device
from the displayed list. If it is not listed, check that the device has
been installed properly, then return to this screen.
5. Note the Device Version. Version 0009 is the original firmware and 000a
is the new firmware. If it shows 000a, there is no need to update the
firmware. If it shows 0009, click the update button.
6. The firmware will begin to download and when completed, it will reset
the device.
7. After the download and reset is complete, click on the Turtle Beach icon
in the systray and select MIDI Activity from the pop up list. This will
activate the MIDI activity screen, showing the status of MIDI input and
output on 16 MIDI channels.
8. Plug the USB MIDI Interface MIDI Input (Blue) to the synthesizer MIDI
output and play the keyboard. You should see one of the channel lights
flash as you play the keyboard. This indicates that the interface is
working properly.
