IMPORTANT!
The S/PDIF out only sends data not audio. It is up to your Receiver
to decode the data and send it to the correct speaker not the Sound Card.
There are no Dolby Digital / DTS Decoders on the card, so it cannot decode
an incoming Dolby Digital / DTS signal. There is only pass through to an
external decoder.
The S/PDIF cable (like the analog cable) is for CD audio only.
Dolby Digital/DTS data goes over the IDE cable.
Connection to Receiver:
In the Catalina Control panel Enable Digital Out and AC3 or PCM with
Auto Selection. The digital OUTPUT of the Catalina is the second optical
connector from the edge of the sound card.

Connections: Transfer from digital recorder to computer:
Q: I am not able to record from my digital recorder to my computer. I have
an optical cable running from my digital recorder to the digital IN jack
of the sound card. I installed the Catalina accompanying software but
none of applications allow you to specify the digital Input jack to record
from. Can you tell me step by step how to transfer music from my digital
recorder to my computer? Thank you.
A: - Connect the S/PDIF output from your digital recorder to the S/PDIF input
of the Catalina
- Launch the Catalina control panel
- Click on the Digital IN option from the speaker mode icons at the top
of the control panel interface
- Click on the Digital In tab and set your preferred monitoring options
- Set up your digital recording software on your computer and press record
- Press play on your external digital recorder

Connections - Digital and Analog signals used simultaneously?
Q: You have connected at the same time both the Digital & Analog outs.
Does the signal from both get send to both the Digital In & Analog
Speakers?
A: Yes, one does not cancel the other, so you can have two Outputs connected
at the same time.

Connections - Internal - Digital CD Input:
Q: I have a Catalina sound card and recently installed a DVD burner which
has a digital audio output connector. Is there an internal digital audio
connector on the sound card that can be connected to the DVD drive?
Currently I am connecting with the analog output from the DVD drive.
A: There is no digital CD input on the card for audio CD playback.

Q: I have an older Santa Cruz card, which I love. The best feature is the
ability to switch from speakers to headphones and back without having to
move the plugs in the back of the computer. My friend bought a Catalina
card and it seems he is not able to do this kind of switch without
changing the plugs. Is he just not doing something right? Your help is
very much appreciated.
A: The Santa Cruz had some unique features which made it ideal for a variety
of uses. The Catalina offers features that are just as unique, but for a
different set of uses. Please consider that there a 4-5 year difference
between the two. You can mirror the front output to the rear output
(for use with speakers and headphones) but it will be different than the
way the Santa Cruz was set up to handle this situation.
- Hook your speakers to the front output jack of the Catalina
- Your headphones to the rear output of the Catalina
- Launch the Catalina control panel
- Select 4 speakers from the top speaker icons
- Click on the Advanced Controls tab and enable Immerzio Gaming Support
This will mirror the front speaker output to the rear speaker output
- Reboot your system and you should have stereo in both speakers and
headphones. The only drawback will be that you will need to turn
down/off the speakers when you are not using them.

Connections: Guitar to S/PDIF?
Q: If I connect my guitar to a digital interface or effects unit that has a
S/PDIF output can I record into the Catalina's S/PDIF input at 24/96 or
is that for a CD player only?
A: If your digital interface/effects unit will send an audio signal at 24/96
through the S/PDIF output, you should experience no problem recording your
guitar in this manner. If you are looking to record your material in a
professional manner, you should be looking into higher end audio
interfaces that will support higher sampling rates and low latency
drivers. Your local music store would be the best place for you to check
out these pro audio interfaces.
