Connections - General 1 FAQ
Connections - CD Audio:
Q: I have two CD drives: One Burner, one reader. I pinned out the analog
cables consistent with the documentation and the markings on the board
for CD1 and CD2. I can only use one or the other, in particular
CD In 2 (JP4) the other does not work nor does AUX input. HELP!!

A: CD1 and CD 2 are the same connection just for the 2 different types
of CD Audio connection. You can only use one or the other. AUX In (JP6)
can be used for a 2nd CD-ROM. Please make sure the AUX (labeled A/V)
in the Riviera mixer is not muted.

Q: I use a Riviera sound card on two channel. In two channel mode does the
rear output put out the exact signal as the front output? I want to use
headphones and a stereo without having to unplug and plug to switch from
using one to the other. Or if that don't work will using a "Y" splitter
    compromise anything.

A: You can do this by setting the card to 4 Speaker Mode and plug the stereo
or headphone into the rear speaker jack.

Q: If I connect a spdif cable the back of the cd drive, and connect that to
the riviera sound card. Will that allow pass-through of Dolby Digital and
DTS audio? Right now I have it connected by an analog cable. Analog or
spdif, will it matter which cable for Dolby Digital and DTS.

If spdif cable, where do I connect it to on the riviera sound card. Here
is what it says on the card for spdif connections- "J11:CD-SPDIF IN" or
    "JP1:OPTICAL SPDIF-1/0."

A: The S/PDIF cable (like the analog cable) is for CD audio only.
Dolby Digital/DTS data goes over the IDE cable.

Q: I am trying to use one of the internal audio connections on the sound
card. I want to send CD audio directly to the sound card via an analog
cable. I have verified/matched the pins on both the sound card and my
optical drive and tried both J-3 and J-6 connections. Neither will produce
any sound. The only sound I get is through the IDE cable and Windows Wave
output, this is not my preferred method for playback.

I have read that analog playback is not possible for the line-in jack as
the audio has to be recorded and played back to be heard. I connected a
line level source to the cd-in pins on the sound card, after verifying
the CD audio slider was to the max, I could not hear anything. However,
recording the signal and playing it back worked just fine. Again, I am
only using the optical SPDIF output for sound. There must be some setting
that will allow me to listen to the audio real time as it is playing.

A: You need to turn off the digital CD feature in Windows XP:
    - Go to the Device Manager and expand you CD-ROM driver
    - Right click on your CD-ROM drive and select Properties
    - Click on the Properties tab and uncheck:
"Enable Digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device"
    - Click on OK.

You also need to turn this feature off in Windows Media Player:
    - Open Windows Media Player and go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > Devices
    - Double-click on Compact Disc and select Analog under Playback.

    NOTE:
    - The analog CD input and Aux input will not output from the digital out
    - The digital CD Audio (over IDE cable) will output from the optical out

Connecting my stereo to my computer - How to:
Q: I just bought a S-Video cord so I can hook it up my Riviera with my stereo
and I can't get it to work. I want to listen to my music!

A: If you are trying to output the Riviera to your stereo, I'm not sure what
you purchased an S-video cable for. S-video is for swapping video between
professional devices. If you are looking to send the sound from your sound
card to your stereo, what you need is a 1/8" stereo male to dual male RCA
cable. You would then connect the front speaker out to the 1/8" stereo
male plug and use the RCA ends to connect to the line in of your stereo.
Once your connections are made select your source from your stereo:
(Tape, Line, Aux) and you should be good to go.

Q: I just installed a Turtle Beach Riviera 5.1 digital sound card but it
won't work with my Boston Acoustics Digital BA735 speakers that I bought
with my last computer. Are they compatible with the sound card? I tried
plugging in headphones and it worked just fine, so it must have to do with
how I have the speakers configured.

A: You should have no problem hooking up the speakers to the sound card.
If you want to use the digital output from the Riviera, you may need to
purchase an adapter to go from the optical to the RCA S/PDIF connectors
on the back of the cabinet. For more info on adapters and possible hook up
alternatives for your speakers, please refer to your Speakers
    documentation.

Connections: Output 2 jacks at the same time?
Q: I just need to know if your Riviera can output sound in two jacks at the
same time. Connections I'm gonna make is one output for the computer
speakers and one output for my other system. Hope this clarifies.

A: You can output sound from the front jacks and mirror that to the rear
jacks. Launch the Audio Deck and click on the Advanced icon (the icon of
a hammer and wrench). Click on the Speaker tab and put a check in the box
for Using Xear 3D. Select 4 channel. Click Apply->OK.
