Assignable Outputs:
Q: I have recently purchased a program, Native Instruments DJ Mixer, that
requires a sound card with assignable outputs (I need two stereo 'master'
& two stereo 'monitor) to operate the program successfully.

A: The Montego DDL is capable of this feature.

Q: Does the Montego DDL feed "Dolby Digital Live" simulated 5.1 sound through
the S/PDIF output? Is the "Dolby Digital Live" feature available through
the S/PDIF or just through the analog multi speaker outputs? In other
words, will my preamp see it (the DDL thru the S/PDIF) as Dolby 5.1
i.e. receive a digital signal that gets converted to feed 6 speakers?

A: The Montego DDL encodes Dolby Digital 5.1 and sends this through the
S/PDIF output. As long as you have a Dolby Digital decoder it will
see a 5.1 signal and route the signal appropriately. Dolby Digital Live
means that the card will encode 5.1 "on the fly". You would still need
a decoder at the other end of the signal to appropriately route the signal
to the proper speakers in a 5.1 set up.

Switching from movies to games to music:
Q: I was hell-bent on purchasing a X-Mystique 7.1 DDL card until I was turned
onto your card in a forum. I've always recognized Turtle Beach as a great
sound card company, but I have never owned a product of yours. Currently
I own an Audigy4 Pro, but I'm pretty disappointed with it since I can't
play games in surround sound through my home theater over SPDIF.

I've been soaking up info on your card and it appears to be a near carbon
copy of the X-Mystique, albeit with a slightly better interface, better
quality (no popping), and lower price (all great qualities). I have one
big question regarding the Montego DDL:

One theme common to both cards seems to be that the card must be manually
changed in the control panel when switching from DDL for games/music or
pass-through for movies. I want to get a DDL card, but the thought of
entering the control panel to turn DDL on/off every time I change from
movies to games to music seems absurd.

A: You can leave the Montego DDL in the DDL setting and make sure that your
Software WinDvD (or whatever) is configured to pass AC3 out the Digital
Output. Then you would not need to switch back and forth.

S/PDIF In & Dolby Digital:
Q: Can the S/PDIF In accept a dolby digital signal and translate it? The
site only mentions it can handle 16 bit/48 kHz but doesn't specifically
mention whether it can handle more than PCM encoding (DD or DTS)

A: The Montego DDL will allow you to pass through a multi stream digital
signal. It will also encode to Dolby Digital 5.1 in real time. The card
will not decode Dolby Digital data. This must be done externally either
in your speakers, A/V receiver or stand-alone decoder.

No Digital Input on Speakers:
Q: I have a set of Creative Labs speakers, they are 5.1 but does not have
any option for digital (one cord input). If I plug in the speakers to
the corresponding ports on the card, will I still be able to utilize
    Dolby Digital Live?

A: The Dolby Digital Live feature is only available via the S/PDIF output.

High Quality concerns: To Catalina or To Montego DDL?
Q: I have an extremely high end Home Theatre and I am building a Media Server
using Windows Media Center 2005 using a PC. I need a card to not degrade
the quality of the recorded files from the PC and support the encoding
formats. These are non compressed fully encoded files (DVD images with
DTS, Dolby Digital, etc and music file including SA CD and DVD Audio that
    I have ripped).

Am I right that as long as I output using the digital optical output to
my receiver and let the receiver do the decoding that I will not hear any
degradation in sound quality? I think I may need a 7 channel analog
output for DVD audio as well. Will the card switch between the two and
know which to output, etc? Given the above, which of your cards would you
recommend or do you have any that meet my needs? Thanks so much.

A: - If you are using the S/PDIF output, there will be no degradation of
sound quality since the digital output does not color the audio signal.

    - The Catalina and the Montego DDL both offer S/PDIF output and 8 channel
analog outputs. You can obtain more detailed information on both of
these sound cards by visiting our web site at http://turtle-beach.com
Neither of these cards will switch between analog and digital output
automatically. You would set this up using the control panel for either
      sound card.

Wave Mix-Out?
Q: Hello. I have a Creative Sound Card and would like to change over to a
Turtle Beach sound card. I have no onboard audio! What I want to be able
to do is use my Sony software (Sound Forge) to record off the internet.

Currently the Creative card does not show a "wave out or mixer" in the
recording section of the control panel. I have to plug one end into the
"speaker" output and plug the other end in the "line in" input. Even my
other computer, that has "onboard" audio, has a recording "wave mix" out.

Will any of your current cards have a wave out (or something similar)
in the recording section of the sound control panel? I hope I explained
this correctly. Thank you for your time.

A: Actually you did explain it wonderfully. Our Montego DDL offers a
'Stereo Mix' recording option which will allow you to do what you are
looking to do (without 'looping back' cables).
