The Ear Force "X" series of gaming headphones is designed specifically for use
with the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console. Even so, many of our customers would
like to know how to use their X-series headphones with their personal
computers for Skype or other Internet telephony applications.
X1:
The Ear Force X1 is the easiest of our headsets to use with a PC. It has
a pink Microphone plug and a green Line Out plug (both are 3.5mm phone
plugs). It also has a USB connector used for powering the headset. You use
the X1 the same way you'd use a standard headset w/ mic.
X2:
The Ear Force X2 is not easily usable with a PC soundcard or laptop audio
connections. The X2-Xbox Controller Cable is the only way to connect the
X2 microphone to external devices. The type of plug used is not compatible
with PC soundcard Microphone inputs.
X3:
The Ear Force X3 is not easily usable with a PC soundcard or laptop audio
connections. The X2-Xbox Controller Cable ("puck") is the only way to
connect the X3's microphone to external devices. The type of plug used is
not compatible with PC soundcard Microphone inputs.
D2:
The Ear Force D2 is designed specifically for use with the Nintendo DS Lite.
It cannot easily be connected to a PC soundcard.
HPA & HPA2:
The Ear Force HPA and HPA2 surround sound headphones are specifically
designed for use with surround-capable PC soundcards and so are easy
to use with Skype and similar applications.
X-51 & X-52:
The Ear Force X-52 and the (discontinued) X-51 surround sound headphones
are specifically designed for use with surround-capable PC soundcards
and so are easy to use with Skype and similar applications.
SPC:
The Ear Force SPC is a high-quality, affordable "plug in and go" headset
for your PC. It makes it easy to use your PC for Skype or other Internet
telephony applications.
AXT:
The Ear Force AXT (now discontinued) was designed for the original Xbox
and it cannot be used for Skype.
AK-R8:
The Ear Force AK-R8 is actually a complete headset-and-soundcard setup,
which connects to your PC through its USB port. It is ready to go with
Skype or other Internet telephony apps, as well as PC games, DVD surround
sound playback, etc.
