Halo 2 FAQ
Q: I am able to hear chat in the lobby for Halo 2, but not in the game.

A: If you can hear chat in the lobby but not when actually playing a game
on Xbox Live or System Link, then the Halo 2 in-game player profile's
settings for Voice Output are most likely not correct. When in the game,
press the START button on the Xbox controller. Choose "Settings" >
"Voice Output", and then select the "Speakers Only" option. Upon
returning to the game, the chat should be audible in the X2 headphones.

Q: I am able to hear chat in a Halo 2 game, but not in the lobby.

A: If you can hear chat in the game but not in the lobby, then the Xbox Live
setting for the Xbox unit itself may not be set correctly.
    Original Xbox:
To verify the setting, eject Halo 2 to get to the Xbox Menu. Select
"Xbox Live" and select your user account, and then choose "Voice Chat",
press the (Y) button and select "Voice Through Speakers" by pressing
      the (A) button.

    Xbox 360:
When at the Xbox 360 Dashboard, after logging into your user profile,
press the Xbox Guide button (the large "X" button in the center of
your controller) to access your Xbox Live Settings. Navigate to the
"Personal Settings" selection, and press the (A) button on your
controller. Select "Voice" from the following menu, and press "A".
On the Voice screen, make sure that "Play Through Both" is selected for
      Voice Output selection.

Q: I have a problem. In order to talk with others online in Halo 2, I have to
hit "Y" and go into my friends' list, hit X and change my voice settings
to "Speakers only" setting before each match. I imagine there is a better
way. Can you tell me how to set this up so I can avoid taking these extra
    steps each time I play?

A: The only reason why you might need to set this each time is that your
Halo 2 player profile doesn't have the setting saved.

Please check the article "Halo 2 Setup". If you go through and verify
steps 1 and 2 under "original Xbox", that should correct the problem.
If you do this and still find that you needs to set this option before
each game, then it is something specific to your setup.
