Halo 2 was one of the first games to really use the capabilities of the Xbox.
It has some nice features in its soundtrack, which are a bit unusual. Because
of this, some people have thought that there was something wrong with their
headphones, when in fact they are now hearing the soundtrack reproduced with
more realism than before.
TO MIX CHAT AND GAME SOUND IN THE HEADPHONES:
- First, sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox.
- In Halo 2, press Y to go into Friends, then press X for Additional Options.
- In the Xbox Live Options menu, select Voice output and set to Mixed
"All On." "Speakers Only" would also work, and is our second choice.
CHAT LEVELS IN HALO 2:
The game is programmed so that when you are far away from an opponent, the
sound of him/her talking will be quiet, or 'distant.' If there is a lot of
action going on near you (on the map) then you may not be able to hear this
faraway opponent talking.
When a teammate is far away from you, their voice will also be distant/quiet.
However, if you have a communications link established, press the White button
to speak through the Communicator. When you release the White button, you will
no longer be connected through the Communicator.
It's your opponents who will be quieter the farther away they are from you,
and louder up close. To communicate with your teammate(s), you need to press
the "Comm" button. On the Xbox Classic, this is the white button.
We didn't add or change any of this. Basically, our X2 headphones act like
the Xbox mic but with no little headset speaker, which is why you need to set
the Live Chat to the Play Through Both (All) instead. That way you can hear
the Live Chat playback in the X2 headphones, which take the place of your
speakers.
Please read also through page 22 in the Halo 2 manual.
NOTE:
The X2 have a built in 'AGC circuit' (Automatic Gain Control) that protects
the Headphones (and your ears) from excessively high signal levels. If you
have set the X2 Base Unit's INPUT LEVEL switch to HIGH, the built-in limiter
will be kicking in and causing all sorts of pumping and breathing and fade
in-fade out effects.
If you crank the volume levels loud enough, it may sound like the headphones
are cutting in and out, or the vibrator in the controller is causing the sound
to cut out. Please set the INPUT LEVEL switch to LOW and keep volume levels
within sane limits. Quiet sounds will be quiet, loud sounds will be loud,
just like in real life.
