The INPUT LEVEL setting on the X2 Base Unit allows you to boost the audio from
unusually low-level sources.
We know that it's hard to resist cranking every level control up to the max,
but we recommend leaving the INPUT LEVEL set to LOW for use with all normal
audio outputs. This includes the Microsoft Xbox 360 and original Xbox.

Q: What happens if I set the INPUT LEVEL switch to HIGH?
A: With normal level sources, you actually won't get more volume. However,
you will get the X2's built in Limiter Circuits to kick in, which can
cause all sorts of unexpected audio behaviors:
- Pumping and Breathing - As quiet sounds are interrupted by sudden,
loud sounds, the audio will suck in and/or suck out, with periods
of silence possible. This is caused by sudden bursts of loud audio
causing the limiter circuits to decrease the audio program level,
and then bring the level back up after the audio has returned to a
quieter level.
- Unexpected Silences (Muting) - After extremely loud sounds of short
duration, such as sudden explosions or gunshots, the limiter may take
a second or two to let the audio level back up. You may notice a moment
of silence, then the background sounds becoming audible again.
- Background Sounds Are Too Loud/Loud Sounds Are Quiet - This is caused
by audio "compression" from the limiter circuits. If you have the
volume levels cranked up so high that the limiter is constantly
working, it will make quiet background noise louder and suppress the
level of loud sounds, making everything seem to be at the same volume.
This is often accompanied by "pumping and breathing" effects (see
above).

Q: How do I keep these problems from happening?
A: Set the INPUT LEVEL switch to LOW and adjust the level from within your
game and from the volume control on the X2 right earcup. Quiet sounds will
be quiet, loud sounds plenty loud. This will give you a more realistic
reproduction of the game's soundtrack.
NOTE: For playback from typical music playback devices like MP3 players
and CD players, as well as with PC soundcards, we recommend keeping
the INPUT LEVEL switch set to LOW. Only if you find that the sound
is still too faint, try the HIGH setting.
