CD-ROM and Ultra-DMA
In systems with ultra DMA capability and older CD-ROM drives, make sure that
the CD-ROM is plugged into a separate IDE channel than the hard drive.
Plug the hard drive into the primary channel, and the CD-ROM into the
secondary channel.

Trying to use the CD-ROM on the same channel will defeat the Ultra DMA
performance for the hard drive because older CD-ROMs do not support UDMA.
(Only newer (32x-40x) CD-ROM drives support this feature.)
