1. Some drives have a dual colored-light. Normally a green light stays
on all the time, and then changes to an orange light when it is being
accessed. If you see two color lights (like at boot up) then this is
the case. If not, continue to (2).
2. Check that the cable is connected to the proper interface (IDE). If
it is attached to the Panasonic or Mitusmi connectors (same number of
pins), the electrical signals will be off and it just won't work.
3. Power off the computer and remove the data cable from the rear of the
CD-ROM drive, leaving only the power hooked up. Turn the computer
back on and see if the light still stays on. If it does its normal
flash and goes out, then there is a problem with the IDE port or
cable the drive is connected to. Try a different cable. If it works
then, it was the cable. If not, then it is the IDE interface. If
the light still stays on, then there may be a hardware defect.
If the drive is still under warranty, it can be exchanged.
