1) Check to see if smartdrv is loaded from "autoexec.bat". If not, hard disk
read/write will not be cached and performance will suffer, such as audio
skipping when creating audio CDs. (See DOS Help on configuring smartdrv.)
2) Check the settings for the Corel cache for the CD Recorder drive. Click
the SCSI Configure icon in the Turtle Beach CD Master group. This program
controls the memory usage for the CorelCDX driver. By default, it will be
setup to use XMS memory (Extended) for the cache. It is also possible to
set it to use EMS (Expanded) memory.
3) If you are running DOS 6.22, there is a patch file which enables smartdrv
to cache the CD-R drive. Updating smardrv is recommended as you will then
only use half the memory for caching as you would when using both smartdrv
and the corelcdx cache. To install the patch:
a) Locate the file "patch_sd.com" in the tbeach\cdmaster folder.
b) Run the patch to update your version of smartdrv.
c) From SCSI Configure, disable memory usage (both EMS and XMS) by clicking
on the Edit button and choosing the "disabled" setting for XMS or "EMS
not used" for EMS.
4) Keep in mind that SCSI controllers typically use a region of upper memory
(from 640 K to 1 MB). You do NOT want this memory block (usually c800) to
be shadowed in the BIOS.
