General MIDI (GM) Standard
--------------------------
The Tropez is compatible with the General MIDI standard used by many popular
games. It uses wavetable synthesis to deliver sound that is superior in
quality to older FM Synthesis cards.
To play a game that is GM-compatible, run "setupsnd.exe" for the Tropez
prior to setting up the game. This initializes the wavetable synth on the
card so that it can handle playback of any MIDI music heard during the game.
Roland MPU-401
--------------
In the days before Windows, the MIDI standard for DOS was called "Roland
MPU-401" compatibility. This enabled a MIDI device to operate in DOS using
a generic driver. The Tropez is capable of General MIDI playback under DOS
using a program called "setupsnd.exe", which enables it to be totally
MPU-401 GM-compatible.
Sound Blaster
-------------
The Tropez is fully Sound Blaster-compatible.
Sound Blaster vs. Sound Blaster Pro
-----------------------------------
Some games offer the choice of either "Sound Blaster" or "Sound Blaster
Pro". The difference being 8-bit, and 16-bit stereo, respectively. The
Tropez is defaulted to 16-bit stereo playback, so no further configuration
is necessary. The Tropez also supports games that only support 8-bit DA
(Digital Audio) without any alternate configuration.
