Tropez Classic - FAQs

All files and documentation are offered on an *AS IS* basis and you assume full responsibility for using them.
Tropez and Windows 95
The original Tropez sound card has native Windows 95 drivers available.

These files

    trop95_1.zip (851 K)
    trop95_2.zip (540 K)

are available on our FTP site (ftp.tbeach.com).

- Install the driver by selecting Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and
double-clicking "Add New Hardware". (If you are unfamiliar with adding
new hardware, please refer to the Windows 95 manual.)

- Unzip the "trop95_1.zip" and "trop95_2.zip" files to separate blank floppy
disks. (Do not unzip the .ZIP files contained inside the archive or the
files will not fit on a disk.) On those disks, there will now be a "readme"
file (it is the same on each disk.) Print this file out before installing
the drivers. Install the drivers according to the information in that text
  document.

Troubleshooting:

1) Are all the old drivers uninstalled? Check the "system.ini" file and
make sure that any references to the sound card are gone (the new
Windows 95 drivers store all information in the Registry instead).
Any references to the following files may be safely commented out:

     VSNDSYS.386
     TROPEZ.DRV
     OPL3.DRV
     MPU401.DRV
     TROPMIDI.DRV

To comment (or "REM") out a line in the "system.ini" file, simply
place a semi-colon and space in front of the line.

For example, this line is NOT commented out:

     WAVE=c:\tropez\drv\tropez.drv

This line IS commented out (which means it is disabled):

     ; MIDI1=OPL3.DRV

2) Stereo Sound Blaster(TM) support has been added to the Windows 95
drivers. To allow games to exploit the native 16-bit support of the
Tropez and still be able to switch to SB mode for older DOS games, the
Tropez will share the digital audio IRQ for the two modes. This means
that only IRQs 7 and 10 will be available. If you do not need SB
compatibility, then you can switch your configuration (as documented in
the "readme.txt" on the install disk) and have 7, 9, 10, and 11 available
to you. IRQ 5, which was previously available in DOS/Win 3.1 is not
available from within Windows 95. If you have a DOS game that will only
work with IRQ 5, then you will still need to run that game in full DOS
mode, where IRQ 5 is still supported.

3) The Tropez Classic has the Mic slider in the Recording control only,
not in Playback volume control. No option exists for having a mic slider
   in Playback control.

Zeos notes:
The Zeos option in Install prevents you from using IRQ 7, which will
cause problems (and possibly a system crash) if used. On some systems,
using IRQ 9 is also a problem, but less severe, so it has been left in
place. Avoid using it if you are unsure.
