Any of the following could contribute to the CD not being detected during
bootup:
* There could be another IDE controller in your system (ie. on motherboard.)
The IDE interface on Tropez will only accept an Enhanced IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM.
Check with the CD-ROM manufacturer to verify that your model is an Enhanced
IDE drive. There can only be one EIDE controller in a system at one time.
If you already have an EIDE controller, you must hook the EIDE CD-ROM to
that controller and not to the Tropez. When installing the Tropez, choose
"NO CD-ROM" to avoid any conflicts with the existing controller.
For information on how to connect the controller card, or to verify you have
an EIDE controller, consult the hardware documentation.
* (Win 3.1) The order of devices loading might not be correct in "CONFIG.SYS."
The Tropez device line in the "CONFIG.SYS" must come before the CD-ROM line,
or the card will not control the CD-ROM properly.
The lines must read as follows:
...
DEVICE=C:\TROPEZ\DOSAPPS\TZMODE.EXE
...
CD-ROM DEVICE LINE
* Make sure that the CD-ROM is getting power. While the computer is powered
on, press the Eject button on the CD-ROM. If it does not eject, it may mean
that the power is not correctly installed. It may also mean that the 40-pin
ribbon cable is on backwards.
* The MIDI IRQ may be causing a conflict with controller. The original
Tropez install put the General MIDI portion of the Tropez on IRQ 15.
This conflicts with the EIDE controller, which must be on that interrupt.
To ensure that the Tropez is not conflicting with its own EIDE controller,
make sure that the SETUPSND line in the "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file is not set to
15.
* (DOS) "TZACDOS.INI" settings may not be correct. In the "TZACDOS.INI" file
(found in the "TROPEZ\DOSAPPS" directory) the following lines need to
appear:
CDROM_MODEL=IDE_SEC
CDROM_BASE=DISABLED
CDROM_IRQ=DISABLED
CDROM_DRQ=DISABLED
