* To download a file, right-click on the link and choose:
Save Target As... (in Internet Explorer)
Save Link As... (in Netscape Navigator)
* Save the file(s) to your hard drive if your browser prompts for
instructions. Most downloadable files are compressed in ZIP archives to
minimize downloading time and conserve disk space.
You will generally need to extract ("unZIP") the downloaded files in order
to run installations. This is accomplished using utility software that is
capable of handling ZIP files.
There are several such programs available, such as:
PKZIP - comes in versions for Windows and MS-DOS and is available
from http://www.pkware.com
WinZip - available from http://www.winzip.com
WinRAR – available from http://www.rarsoft.com
Aladdin Expander - available from http://www.aladdinsys.com
NOTE - Several of our ZIP files contain subdirectory information! When
unzipping ZIP archives that contain subdirectories, make sure that
the program will recurse (recreate) the ZIP file's directory structure.
In the MS-DOS command line version of PKUNZIP, this is done by adding
the -D parameter to the command line. In WinZip, check "Include
subfolders" and "Save extra folder info" (this is usually the default
setting). For other utilities this will vary - consult the program's
documentation on how to do this.
* Once the ZIP files have been unZIPPED (extracted), be sure to read
the installation instructions found in the README.TXT file(s).
