Stealth 400 - PC Compatibility

The Stealth 400 was designed for PS3 and PS4 consoles only. We are unable to guarantee universal PC compatibility with the Stealth 400.

It is possible to use the Stealth 400 properly on a PC after a firmware update released in 12/2016. Firmware update instructions and the Turtle Beach Audio Hub download link are detailed in the Turtle Beach Audio Hub - Firmware Update for PS4 Without Optical article. The firmware update modifies the controls on the Stealth 400 to work without an optical cable connection from the transmitter. A Stealth 400 PC setup will only use the USB path.

The following info is provided on an unsupported AS-IS basis.

Requirements:
• Windows or Mac PC with:
    • 1 empty USB 2.0 port

Note: The screenshot below shows the Stealth 520 but the same settings apply for the Stealth 400.

PC Setup & Windows Settings:

1. Connect the transmitter to a USB port on your PC.

2. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound (or right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar), go to the Playback tab (or select 'Playback devices'), right-click "Speakers - Turtle Beach Stealth 400 Chat" and select "Set as Default Device".

3. Click on the Recording Tab and select "Microphone - Stealth 400" as the Default Device.

4. Once the Default Devices have been selected, click 'OK'.

Your PC Sound Settings are now configured for Headphone and Microphone use.

Please note that settings within chat software will still need to be configured separately.

The following diagram describes the controls on the Stealth 400 with and without an optical cable connection. The controls listed under "Headset Controls without Optical" are the controls that will be active on a PC.

can you use it while its charging... if so, it does not fix my problem because i have done all of the steps you have provided but i still can not get audio to play through the head set even when it shows audio playing in "sounds." if you have a solution, i would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Chase, you should be able to use it while charging. Did you do the firmware update? And are you using it with or without an optical connected to the transmitter? If you happen to be using it *with* optical, then you'll want to set the computer's Digital Output as your default audio playback device and the Stealth 520 as default for communication/recording instead.

If you're still having trouble then feel free to get in touch with our support team.

Used the firmware update and now my stealth 400 headset thinks its a stealth 420x while the transmitter still is a stealth 400. The headset wont turn on and will only charge with a very dim red light that continually flashes.

That is certainly unusual. The audio hub and your headset should in no way be able to even do what you mention. If they are reacting like this, then you will want to contact our support team to continue into Warranty service.

My computer isnt recognizing the Turtle Beach 400 rx, like it isnt showing up on the Playback list. Ive tried installing the audio hub and once connected it tells me to connect additional components but i only have the one usb? Sorry if this isnt the correct place to post this

    @ Tom

When you are updating from the audio hub, you need to plug in the headset and transmitter to the PC.

Ok ive done it, it says its all up to date, but the headphones still arent showing up on that sound menu. I do have my computer connected to a TV so all the sounds are currently going through that.

If the transmitter doesnt show up at alll under USB devices still, then there may be a different issue going on with the unit. In that case, you may wish to speak to our warranty team for service/further troubleshooting than i can detail here.

So i set everything up and i can hear everything just fine. But the "Master volume control" dial doesn't change anything. And the "mic monitor control" seems to change the master volume. Is there a way to fix this so i can get the the two dials set up to change 'chat' and 'game' volume respectively?

is USB 3.0 not going to work?

    @Dylan

You may not have it fully setup. This is how the product will react when the optical connection is not in use. You may want to look over this article if you have a new PS4.

    @William

Are you having an issue with USB 3.0 ports but it is fine in older?

Yes, I was able to get the headset to work on my old laptop, but on my new pc build I am not able to get it to work. This PC only has USB 3.0

    @ William

Well this model itself was made with the PS4 specs itself in mind, so it may indeed have an issue if this is using new 3.0 on a PC. To verify that it doesnt have a problem on its own, you may want to try it on another capable device. If you have the old setup or something with older USB.

I was having problems with device. The transmitter/usb is installed but has an exclamation point in the device manager.  My stealth 400 doesn't show up in the "playback devices" either. This is the only time I've had a problem with the computer not recognizing the transmitter/usb. I've used this headset on 4 different computers and a ps4 and never had problems like this before. Usually it's just plug and play.

    @ Zuniga

You will want to try this on one of the previous computers or setups that it was working on. So you can identify if the new computer has an issue with that USB port, or if there is an issue with the transmitter/usb of the headset proper.

Set the headset to default on the other computers that it was working on?

Does it support the 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound and superhuman hearing??

    Any driver needed?

    @ Jiu

No, the 400 model was not intended for 7.1 surround on its own.

    Hello,

No major issues with operation. However is there a way to disable auto-shutdown? Within 3-5 minutes(even with audio being played and mic being used) it will initiate auto-shutdown. And if I press the power button too quickly it shuts off. I've seen this issue pop up with a few people after searching for a solution. But found no solution. So I figured I would come to the source. I'm currently using this on a pc.

    @ Nathan Roberts

There is no way to disable the auto-shutdown. With that being said, if the headset initiates auto-shutdown even if the audio is being played/mic is being used, you’ll want to contact our support team.
